Acadiana Park Nature Station
This 150-acre wooded section of Acadiana Park has six miles of trails for you to enjoy. The trails sit at the intersection of two major ecosystems: the Gulf Coastal Tallgrass Prairie and the Mississippi River Floodplain. Look for over two dozen species of vines, over 150 species of birds, and more than a dozen species of non-venomous snakes.
The Acadiana Nature Station Loop and the Moonseed Loop are the two most popular walking options in Acadiana Park; try the 1.8-mile Acadiana Loop for a walk along the river, or opt for the Moonseed Loop for a 2.2-mile hike in the thick of the park.
Beaver Park’s proximity to the Vermillion River, Spreafico Lake, the Bayou Vermillion Nature Trail, and the Atakapas Ishak Trail gives you many options for walking and sightseeing. Be sure to look out for bird nests, beaver dams, and deer paths as you make your way through your trail of choice.
If your family is particularly energetic, taking them to Heymann Park is the way to go. Head out for a short jaunt through the multi-purpose trail on the north side of the Vermillion River, and see if you can spot the fish and frogs that call the river home.
